Strategic Direction

OPHA's Strategic Direction for 2009-10 is based upon achievement of the following Goals and Objectives:

  1. Strengthen OPHA's Advocacy Role
    • Increase the association’s capacity for policy analysis and advocacy on public health issues;
    • Strengthen public health practice towards addressing the broad determinants of health in order to narrow the health disparity gap;
    • Enhance OPHA's response to anticipated changes and emerging issues in public health;
    • Enhance OPHA's voice on health system reform.
  2. Increase OPHA's role in enhancing the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of public health programs and services
    • Continue to support public health human resource development and the implementation of public health competencies to strengthen public health;
    • Provide mechanisms for collaborative initiatives with a provincial focus;
    • Foster the implementation of evidence-informed practice and knowledge exchange;
    • Increase OPHA's capacity to provide province-wide support to public and community healthy programs.
  3. Develop effective strategic external relationships
    • Increase and strengthen OPHA influence, profile, and linkages with various Ministries and other stakeholders on public health issues;
    • Increase public recognition of OPHA as the voice of public health;
    • Increase public/community health practitioner recognition of OPHA's role in public and community health;
    • Increase collaboration with and among OPHA's Constituent Societies.
  4. Develop and improve the OPHA organization
    • Utilize the OPHA strategic directions to align OPHA work;
    • Increase and broaden the membership base;
    • Foster a positive workplace culture.
