OPHA Conference 2007 Public Health: Who's at Risk? What's at Stake?
Register now to take advantage of reduced rates. Early Bird registration ends September 21 for this year's OPHA Conference, co-hosted by Toronto Public Health. The conference will be held on November 18-21, 2007 at the Marriott Toronto Downtown Eaton Centre. Online registration and the complete preliminary program guide are available at our conference website.
During six concurrent sessions, delegates will be able to choose from numerous panels and oral presentations in five sub-themes:
- Working in a Health System under Reform
- Evidence Based Practice and the Precautionary Principle
- Emerging Issues in Public Health
- Populations at Risk
- Access, Equity and Social Justice
This year's lineup of keynote speakers includes:
- Giller prize-winning author and emergency physician Dr. Vincent Lam
- Michele Simon, author of the highly-acclaimed "Appetite for Profit: How the Food Industry Undermines our Health and How to Fight Back"
- Dr. Vincent Covello, founder and director of the US-based Center for Risk Communication
- Angela Robertson, Executive Director of Sistering: A Woman's Place.
As well, keynote panel discussions on youth, Aboriginal Health, and Health System Reform are planned.
"From Politics to the People" — CPHA 2007 Annual Conference
In association with OPHA, the CPHA 2007 Annual Conference will be held on September 16-19, 2007 at the Westin Ottawa/Ottawa Congress Centre, in Ottawa. The conference will feature such distinguished speakers as:
- Dr. David Butler-Jones, Canada's first Chief Public Health Officer
- Allan Gregg, Chairman of The Strategic Counsel, one of Canada's leading market research and polling firms
- Dr. James Orbinski, a veteran of many of the world's most disturbing and complex humanitarian emergencies
As part of the conference, OPHA, CPHA, CIHR-IPPH and the David Suzuki Foundation (DSF) proudly present a public forum to discuss the DSF’s groundbreaking report, "Prescription for a Healthy Canada: Towards a National Environmental Health Strategy". Conference delegates and members of the public will be able to discuss the report's findings with David Suzuki; noted environmental health physician, Lynn Marshall; and Ambassador of Sweden to Canada, Ingrid Iremark.
The Public Forum will be introduced by OPHA President Dr. Garry Aslanyan.
