ANDSOOHA
ANDSOOHA-Public Health Nursing Management strives to promote excellence in Public Health Nursing Administration and Practice and to provide a united voice for Public Health Nursing Administration in Ontario. Over the past year, ANDSOOHA has been actively involved in work connected to issues identified in the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care's Capacity Review Committee report [PDF].
ANDSOOHA is a member of the Joint Provincial Nursing Committee and worked with the Nursing Secretariat to design and implement the first public health nursing sector survey. This data provides our first snapshot of the public health nursing workforce and provides both health units and the province with valuable information for health human resource planning.
ANDSOOHA continues to be a member of the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) and Council of Ontario University Programs in Nursing (COUPN) where we promote public health knowledge and skill development in nursing education.
We were actively involved in an assessment of undergraduate nursing curricula to determine the extent of integration of Community Health Nursing Standards. This assessment provided critical feedback to our academic partners on the importance of integrating public health information into the undergraduate education programs.
To support the entry to public health nursing practice, ANDSOOHA sits on the Nursing Graduate Task Force and is supporting the capacity of public health units working to utilize the 2007 Nursing Graduate Guarantee.
ANDSOOHA and Public Health Research, Education and Development (PHRED) have partnered on a Nursing Mentorship Initiative – now in Phase II with piloting of the mentorship resource in 4 public health units across Ontario.
ANDSOOHA's Annual Meeting and Workshop will be held October 3rd and 4th at the Courtyard Marriot Hotel. This is a great opportunity to network with fellow managers, learn new skills and hear updates from key people related to our work in Public Health.
There are currently ten Constituent Societies of OPHA. Their representatives sit on the OPHA Board of Directors, and are elected by their respective societies.
