Conference News

The Preliminary Program will be posted on the conference website by the second week in July. Our Online Registration will also be open at that time. We look forward to seeing you at the conference.

Staff Update

Shawna Scale has been appointed Manager, OCDPA replacing Maria Grant. Shawa has been serving as Acting Manager while Maria was on maternity leave. Maria was due to return this month, but has resigned in order to take a job closer to home. Please join us in thanking Maria for her services to OPHA.

Pam Kinzie will remain Acting Manager fo the HHRC until Andrea Bodkin returns in January 2009. The job posting for a Program Coordinator will be issued shortly.

Project Opportunities

The month of May was particularly busy for everyone as programs hustled to complete final Ministry reports by May 15. Meanwhile, in the constant quest to take on projects to advance public health, a flurry of funding proposals were prepared and submitted by staff. Here are some selected highlights.

  • For two of three letters of intent — one for TEIP and one for OCDPA —that were submitted for the Ontario Stroke Strategy have generated requests for full proposals to be submitted by June 20.

  • Two proposals have been submitted to Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) on Core Competencies — one to update the e-learning module on the OPHA website and the other to further develop the Diversity Curriculum begun by the OPHA Access Equity and Social Justice Workgroup.

  • A proposal for OPHA to become a Canadian Public Health Service Placement Site for a Public Health Officer has been submitted. We expect to receive a response by the end of June.

  • A proposal that building on OPHA's Core Competency work is being prepared in collaboration with our Constituent Societies and others for submission to HealthForce Ontario by June 27.
