Letter to Premier McGuinty: Smoke-Free Ontario…

This month, OPHA responded to recent concerns expressed across the public health professional community regarding the Smoke-Free Ontario Act and Strategy (SFOS). As a member of the stakeholder table established by the Ministry of Health Promotion (MHP) to continue to strengthen and reshape SFOS, OPHA supports the government’s commitment to SFOS. However, the recent cuts to tobacco control have caused operational disruptions in many health units.

Toxics Reduction Act (Bill 167)

OPHA welcomes the passage of the Toxics Reduction Act (Bill 167) as a significant outcome of our advocacy efforts. OPHA remains committed to working to strengthening the legislation, as we have identified several gaps in the current law that are a threat to its effectiveness. Visit the Ministry of the Environment website for details of the current legislation.
