OSNPPH: Current activities in public health nutrition

The Ontario Society of Nutrition Professionals in Public Health (OSNPPH) is the official organization of registered dietitians working within public health in Ontario. OSNPPH facilitates networking and provides support to our membership in order to enhance our individual and collective effectiveness. Our current membership stands at an all-time high of 170.

Key activities over the past year include the following:

  • A full-day meeting among current and past Executive members as well as other key stakeholders was held in January to provide input on considerations for OSNPPH's future organizational structure in order to better facilitate proactive response to issues affecting our members' practice;

  • An introductory workshop on public health nutrition in Ontario was planned and presented by ten OSNPPH members to a group of 50 dietetic interns;

  • Comments on four of the draft protocols (Public Health Assessment and Surveillance, Healthy Babies Health Children, Nutritious Food Basket, and Public Health Emergency Preparedness) for the draft public health standards were submitted;

  • The School Nutrition Workgroup (SNWG) held a full-day planning meeting to review its mandate, strategic priorities and plan for future activities and structure of the Workgroup; and

  • Members of our School Nutrition Workgroup are participating in the Ministry of Education's review of the Health and Physical Education curriculum for elementary and secondary levels.

OSNPPH's Annual Nutrition Exchange will be held at the Nottawasaga Inn in Alliston on May 22 and 23. This year's theme is The Food Environment…Moving Forward. More details will be posted shortly on our website.

There are currently 10 Constituent Societies of OPHA. Their representatives sit on the OPHA Board of Directors, and are elected by their respective societies.
