2009 OPHA Conference – Call for Abstracts launching next week
You are invited to submit an abstract for the upcoming 60th Anniversary Conference of the Ontario Public Health Association held at the Toronto Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre, November 1–4, 2009

In celebration of the many disciplines involved in the delivery of public health, themes for this year’s conference are:
- Health Equity
- Public Health Workforce
- Collaboration
- Innovation in Public Health Practice
- Knowledge Exchange
All abstracts should address the conference themes and must be submitted electronically by end of day May 11, 2009. Abstracts will be reviewed by a Committee of Peers using standard criteria. Applicants are encouraged to visit the conference website for details on how to write a conference abstract.
Student Submissions
The PHRED Student Award, presented annually at the OPHA Conference, was created to recognize the work of graduate or undergraduate students in applied public health research and evaluation. The winner will be awarded $1,000, which will be presented during the OPHA Conference Awards lunch. In addition, the winning paper will be presented during one of the concurrent sessions at the conference.

OPHA's Nutrition Resource Centre's Reputation Recognized Once Again

Over the years OPHA's Nutrition Resource Centre has steadily earned a sterling reputation as a centre of public health excellence. Here is one more piece of evidence.
The Nutrition Resource Centre (NRC) has been cited in the online resources that accompany the first Canadian edition of the student textbook, Nutrition: Concepts and Controversies, as a credible nutrition information source in Canada. NRC is listed in the links under Chapter 1.
Nutrition: Concepts and Controversies: First Canadian Edition was published by Nelson Education Ltd in 2009©. The Canadian editor is Leonard A. Piché, PhD, RD, from University of Western Ontario.
Staff Update
OPHA would like to welcome the addition of Omer Chaudhry to the core staff complement as part-time IT Administrative Support. As more and more emphasis is being placed on productivity and efficiency through use of technology, Omer will be instrumental in helping OPHA and its Program staff stay connected and upgraded.
