March 2011 - Association Update

Welcome to our new Executive Director

Dear Colleagues:

The OPHA Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Ms. Siu Mee Cheng will assume the position of Executive Director of OPHA effective Monday, April 4, 2011.

Siu Mee brings a wealth of experience in health administration, policy development, and government relations which will greatly enhance OPHA’s strategic direction. She is currently the Executive Director of the Toronto Central Palliative Care Network. This position involved performance management, service integration initiatives, the development of new service delivery opportunities with key community health and LHIN partners, increasing and diversifying membership recruitment and revenue generation and diversification activities.

Previous work experience includes Project Director for the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer Corporation (CPACC); Director for Risk Management, Accountability, Performance and Contract Management for Cancer Care Ontario (CCO); Quality & Planning Manager for the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) Toronto Regional Office; Senior Policy Advisor for both Management Board Secretariat and MOHLTC; Risk Analyst for the Ministry of the Attorney General, and Quality Manager for University Health Network.

Siu Mee brings to OPHA skills in stakeholder relations management and a familiarity in navigation of the provincial health care, not-for-profit and service sectors.

Siu Mee has a Bachelor's degree from the Public Health Program at Ryerson University, and a Master's degree in Community Health from the University of Toronto. She is also a Certified Health Executive Member of the Canadian College of Health Service Executives.

The Board is eager to work with Siu Mee to operationalize our new strategic plan. Her experience and skills will be asset to OPHA as we strive to strengthen the impact of Ontario’s public health multidisciplinary workforce.

As part of her orientation to the role of Executive Director, Siu Mee will be in touch will many of our key stakeholders and Partners in the Spring.

Staff Updates

The Healthy Communities Consortium Team at OPHA (formerly known as the Heart Health Resource Centre) is pleased to announce that Rebecca Byers, Program Coordinator with OPHA, has welcomed a baby boy, Dylan Matthew Debacker into her family.

Dianne Coppola will be taking Rebecca’s maternity leave contract with the Consortium team at OPHA. Dianne has a long history in public health in Ontario, both with Niagara Region Public Health Department and with the Heart Health Resource Centre, making her a very valuable addition to the OPHA team. Welcome Dianne!
