OPHA Receives Funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation Future Fund
The OPHA, in its collaboration with OCDPA, is one of the first five recipients of the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) Future Fund to enhance the future of Ontario communities.
The 2007-2008 Future Fund of $2 million supports collaborative partnerships among not-for-profit organizations working on environment issues, strengthens their impact, enhances leadership and builds capacity within the sector.
OPHA and four other grant recipients were honoured during a media event held on April 24, 2008, at Toronto's Allan Gardens Conservatory and attended by Ontario's Ministers of Culture and the Environment.
The "Chronic Disease and Early Environmental Exposures" project is a joint project of the Ontario Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance (OCDPA) — of which OPHA is a member — and the Canadian Partnership for Children’s Health and the Environment (CPCHE). The project receives $294,700 over two years to raise awareness of the links between early environmental exposure and chronic disease in children. This work will help influence practice and policies in the development of chronic disease prevention strategies.
The OTF Future Fund also supported projects from other organizations designed to:
- Reduce pollution and strengthen leadership in communities, organizations and First Nations groups;
- Create a North-South Climate Change Network;
- Optimize the use of information technology among environmental groups;
- Engage a broad range of environmental organizations in a shared strategy.
