Association Update |
Preparation for post-provincial election action and the formation of OPHA’s recommendations to the newly elected government about public health has been one of the recent focuses of the OPHA Board.
Last month we brought forth the OPHA/alPHa Public Health Messages as part of our Provincial Election Guide [PDF, 334kb] in preparation for the election on October 10th; this month the Board engaged in a discussion about the affect of regionalization of public health within the health system to better prepare our position on the future governance and organization of public health. To aid us in our discussion we had Dr. Brent Moloughney prepare a discussion paper and lead us in an exchange about the experiences of public health in a regional health model across Canada. We also had a presentation from Anne Lessio about the existing collaborations of public health with their Local Health Integration Networks. The Board will present a resolution regarding its position to the membership at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on November 20 at our Annual Conference.
The AGM preparations are well underway.
Members will be considering seven resolutions and/or position papers that have been vetted by the Advocacy and Public Relations Committee.

Final preparations for the 2007 OPHA Annual Conference going into high gear; sponsorship is high, exhibit space is full, and registration is strong.
Exploration of additional funding sources for OPHA is underway with the assistance of our Planning and Development Manager Jay Pitter. We will seek funding for a public health professional practice hub at OPHA.
The OPHA website is being redeveloped under the guidance of our Chief Information Officer Dorothy Birtalan. We are anticipating the launch of the new website at our Conference.
