Association of Supervisors of Public Health Inspectors of Ontario (ASPHIO)

ASPHIO is an organization of directors, managers and supervisors of public health inspectors from Ontario’s 36 local health units responsible for protecting and improving public health through the management and delivery of public health inspection programs.

ASPHIO provides a means of information sharing, collaboration and program planning on common public health activities while respecting the local needs of each public health unit.

Recent activities include:

  • Establishing inspection criteria for farmers’ markets;
  • Contributing to CMOH report on 2008 Listeria outbreak;
  • Initiating a study of practicum efficacy for Public Health Inspection students.

Current priorities include:

  • Promotion of mandatory certification for food handler;
  • Amending constitution.
