Our Voice in Action
The OPHA has established a strong record of success as the Voice of Public Health in Ontario since 1949. Over the years, Public Health professionals, Community Health professionals, grassroots organizations and individuals have collaborated with the OPHA to speak out and be heard by politicians and government policy makers on issues that affect the health of Ontarians. This is reflected in our rebranded "& OPHA" — emphasizing the collaborative and consultative nature of OPHA's advocacy for Public Health issues.
OPHA’s unique multi-disciplinary, multi-faceted research and evidence-based approach to advocacy has earned recognition from decision-makers and resulted in securing for the organization a key role in decision-making processes that work to improve health policy, healthy public policy, health programs and health promotion initiatives.
OPHA’s main vehicles for advocacy include:
- Letters to Politicians and Policy Makers;
- Media Releases;
- Submissions and Consultations with Government;
- Position Papers, Resolutions and Motions.
In addition, registered members of OPHA become engaged in producing these advocacy tools by establishing or joining a variety of issue-focused OPHA Workgroups. Click on the links to the right to see a list of our current collaborative efforts.
