Canadian Partnership for Children's Health and Environment (CPCHE)
The Canadian Partnership for Children's Health and Environment (CPCHE) is a collaborative partnership of ten groups, including OPHA, that are working together to protect children's health from environmental contaminants. The primary objective of the group is to create a network of champions throughout the province who can advance the cause of children’s environmental health in their local communities. Specifically, OPHA and CPCHE have a mandate to build the capacity of local organizations and community opinion leaders to deliver high-quality children’s environmental health programming in local communities.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation has recently approved funding for CPCHE’s “Building Local Children’s Environmental Health Champions” project, with the Ontario Public Health Association (OPHA) as the project lead.
CPCHE in Action…
- Identifies, recruits and trains 20 Local Champions from 3 sectors and 5 regions across Ontario.
- Facilitates children’s environmental health train-the-trainer workshops, seminars and information sessions so that Local Champions become competent content experts on children’s environmental health issues.
- Supports Local Champions to independently deliver workshops after receiving train-the-trainer education.
- Formed a Joint Initiative on Early Environmental Exposures and Chronic Disease Prevention in Ontario with OCDPA.
Impacts
CPCHE has developed a number of learning resources for the Local Champions Project. These resources are tailored to meet the learning needs of all new Local Champions---members of the public, service providers, health professionals, members of ENGO’s or NGO’s. Printed resources and other useful information can be accessed in both languages from the CPCHE website.
