Welcome to OPHA's Public Health Core Competencies Initiative (PHCCI) website.

The Public Health Core Competencies Initiative is about supporting the development of core competencies to enable an adequately resourced, skilled and responsive public health workforce; A workforce capable of managing emerging threats, chronic diseases and other health promotion issues. At the heart of this initiative is the desire to improve the public health system for those who work in it and those who benefit from it. The OPHA PHCCI is working closely with the Public Health Agency of Canada to support the development and implementation of core competencies that will have Pan-Canadian application.

The OPHA Public Health Core Competencies Initiative has now completed the provincial consultation process to examine the relevancy and applicability of the draft 62 core competencies (PDF, 30kb). For more information on this consultation process please see the section called What's been done? The final consultation and evaluation reports are available there.

We are also pleased to present to you the OPHA Public Health Core Competencies Initiative Learning Modules designed to increase engagement and discussion around the draft core competencies for public health across the public health workforce.
