For front line providers, core competencies may lead to clearer job expectations or the opportunity to define educational needs. For management, core competencies may assist in developing performance standards or support planning for emergency response. For human resources professionals, core competencies may support efforts to recruit and retain highly skilled public health professionals. The implications of adopting core competencies for public health may also vary depending on the perspective from which they are being considered.
