Towards Evidence-Informed Practice (TEIP) Project
Launched at OPHA in 2005, Towards Evidence Informed Practice (TEIP) aims to build a supportive culture for evidence-informed practices within Ontario’s health promotion and prevention systems.
TEIP tools, training and resources support the:
- OPHS Foundational Standard for research, knowledge exchange and program evaluation;
- PHAC Core Competencies for Public Health;
- OCCHA Quality Framework.
TEIP in Action…
TEIP tools build skills, confidence and local capacity for community-based health promotion and prevention practitioners. They provide step-by-step guidance which can be used in collaboration with your program team, partners and stakeholders to assess, evaluate and strengthen local programs.
TEIP provides a range of supports to build organizational capacity for evidence-informed practice:
- Onsite Master Trainer Workshops;
- Accessible, web-based Tools and online learning modules;
- Evaluation help-line service (pilot phase);
- Skill-building webinars for evidence-informed practice;
- Forum to connect TEIP Tool users.
Impacts
Independent evaluations demonstrate that use of TEIP tools and processes:
- Increases practitioner knowledge, skills, and confidence for program evidence and evaluation;
- Leads to an intention by participants to change usual practices and to incorporate TEIP tools in other aspects of public health practice;
- Increases quality and strength of the partnerships when partners participate in use of tools.
“TEIP has provided the tools and support to ensure our programs incorporate evidence into program planning”.1
“Without this process I think we would continue to have very superficial evaluations… the lessons learned can be transferred to other initiatives and planning”.1
TEIP is funded through the Ministry of Health Promotion - Ontario Stroke System - Health Promotion and Primary Prevention.
